About the Trip

I borrowed Henry Linck's laptop and digital camera (thanks Henry!) to take on my trip, so I could stay connected all the time and put my images online, correspond with family and friends, and keep in touch with the students taking my internet class at http://www.page-designs.com/cs129n/

The laptop is a Hewlett Packard Omnibook 800CT; it's a Pentium 166 with 48 mgs RAM. The digital camera is an Olympus and holds 20 high resolution images at a time (640 x 480) or 70 low resolution images (320 x 240). At the end of the day, I downloaded the images from the camera to the laptop, and then used Photoshop to touch up and size images.

For page creation, I used FrontPage and copied all the files over by connecting to the server back in the U.S. via telephone connections..

Connecting while travelling: I used a roaming account that let me dial a local number in every city I visited: http://www.homegate.com, and got connectors for Australian electrical outlets (power points) online at http://www.teleadapt.com.

What a long, strange trip it's been! Thanks to everyone who followed me virtually and to those who were actually there in body as well as spirit. It's been a wonderful experience and I'll never forget any of it (how can I now, with everything online!)
