An Island Paradise 12 miles off the Coast of Perth

It's a tiny island -- just 7 miles by 3 miles, with marsupials called quokkas, which a Dutch navigator took for rats in 1696 (hence the island name, which means "Rat's Nest"). The island is ringed with secluded bays; I went to Parakeet Bay and had the entire beach to myself -- white sand, surf, peace and quiet. The water was bright and clear -- you can see that I did, indeed, test out the waters of the Indian Ocean and they were quite fine :) And if you look closely, you can see the pattern of my sandals -- suntanned into the tops of my feet after two weeks in the desert sun <g>
