Biting the dust

Marree used to be a major city when the Ghan railway went through it, carrying cattle. It went from a bustling town of 20,000 to today's 80 residents. Still, in an area as sparsely populated as the Australian Outback, a town with 80 people earns itself a sign as you leave town, warning you that as soon as you leave Marree you're entering remote areas. One has to wonder if they count the emu in the town's census.

The beer in the West End bar is incredibly cold and revitalizing after a couple of weeks of sand and intense sun...a Coke from the general store/post office/grocery store/souvenir shop is worth its weight in gold.

It wouldn't be Outback
