Your basic beach town...without the RonJon shops :) The fifth photo is the view from my hotel balcony at night and the last photo...I keep seeing these in Oz, and I keep expecting them to be something else <g>
Talk about Down Under! Unbelievable scuba diving on the reef. There was only one other certified diver with the group, so he (Matt) and I were able to go out immediately with the dive master (Jared). So we strapped on our virtual cement shoes (that scuba gear is very heavy) and went swimming with the fishies. It really is beautiful underwater...living corals with ruffled edges that contracted when you touched them, swirling and dancing fronds, big hunks of solid multicolored coral the size of loaves of bread that you could pick up and touch. Slivers of white spines that disappeared into the coral when you touched it. And bright blue and yellow fish the size of your hand and your head, and sea turtles.

There was an underwater videographer who sold copies of the tape he made of that day underwater, so here are the vid caps I made. There aren't bigger images to link to, but you can download an .avi file and take a look at The Great Barrier Reef right from your desktop.
