An opal mining town

An opal mining town about 30km from Roxby Downs. We went to see the opal fields and visit Dan's uncle Steve. The opal fields are made up of pointy white mounds where they've already done some fossicking...leaves strange pockmarks on the landscape like the surface of the moon. Had a VB (Victoria Bitter) beer at the West End bar in town...they had a wall display of opals you could buy...the first bar I've ever seen with jewelry for sale. When the sun set, Joe and Dan did a weird tribal sun dance you had to see to believe -- it can't be done justice even as an animated GIF <g>.
